Our doctors have received the ECNU certification by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology. ECNU is a professional certification in the field of neck ultrasonography for physicians who perform consultations and diagnostic evaluations for thyroid and parathyroid disorders through both diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (UGFNA). Our team takes pride in being one of the most experienced ECNU certified in the state of Utah making sure that each evaluation is as accurate as possible.
If your doctor recommends a thyroid ultrasound, or you feel a lump in your neck, call to schedule an appointment. Our ECNU certified doctors will not only examine your thyroid, but also the entire front of your neck, and will give you recommendations and guide you through the next steps during the same visit.
You can be assured that if you need a thyroid nodule biopsy, with our experienced doctors you will feel less pain than when you get a blood drawn. Our experienced team has done more than 2500 Painless Biopsies between them and still going strong
This is one of the few centers in the country to offer this procedure for the treatment of cystic thyroid nodules, and, on carefully selected patients, cancerous lymph nodes and parathyroid adenomas. Traditionally, these have been treated with surgery.
New studies and guidelines suggest that radiation use should be minimal and highly selective. At our clinic, we use radiation only if absolutely necessary and use the least amount of radiation necessary to get the job done. Get a second opinion with us before you get a radiation dose.
After performing thousands of thyroid nodule biopsies, our doctors have the lowest rates of non-diagnostic biopsies in the country! In addition, our doctors use genetic testing on the biopsy sample when it is indeterminate, and have prevented hundreds of unnecessary surgeries.
If you have primary hyperparathyroidism, you need an endocrinologist who is very experienced with the ultrasound, as the parathyroids are hard to find. Our doctors have localized thousands of parathyroids, and helped patients get minimally invasive parathyroidectomies and avoid extensive surgeries. Our parathyroid localization rate is one of the highest in the country.

Learn MoreOnce the thyroid gland is removed the patient is subjected to lifelong thyroid hormone replacement. This can also happen even if half the thyroid is removed. If you were told that you biopsy results are inconclusive and surgery is necessary to rule out the risk of cancer it is a good idea to get a second opinion as new genetic technologies available at our center can help clarify that diagnosis and might help you avoid any unnecessary surgery.
If you have a benign thyroid nodule and surgery is recommended due to its big size he should also get a second opinion as at our institute we have the ability to shrink these nodules and a painless nonsurgical fashion using radiofrequency ablation.

I am so impressed with the care I received at Endocrinology Center of Utah. Dr. Shahzad Ahmed was so professional, compassionate and humble before and during my thyroid treatment. He talked me through the whole thing and there were no surprises. I found him knowledgeable and professional who made me feel healthy as ever before. Thank you!- Cindy C.
Dr Shahzad Ahmad was incredibly intelligent and was a good change for me after years of shuffling doctors for me. He has a refreshingly direct approach, which could be mistaken for arrogance but I would rather have my doctor be straight with me rather than sweet talk or use fear tactics. He offered real solutions and actual treatment for my hyporthyroidism , helping me control my weight gain and battle my fatigue. The office staff was highly professional and friendly, I would recommend Dr Ahmad and his team to any one looking for efficient care in the beehive state.- Angela Hunter
We were referred to Dr Shahzad Ahmad at the Provo branch for Endocrinology Center Of Utah. Dr Shahzad Ahmad and his team were friendly and courteous to work with. Once the appointment was booked, Dr Shahzad Ahmad made sure I was comfortable and answered all the questions I had on my condition. He was knowledgeable in his field and also personable, a rarity in doctors. He was also well equipped with staff and facilities to take care of all endocrine needs without making that trip to Salt lake city. It is good to have doctors and teams such as Dr Shahzad Ahmad in Provo!- Caroline Whittaker
